Giants need a closer, and Buster Posey says it's a priority. But Adrian Morejon and David Bednar carry qualifying offers and a steep price, so mid-tier options like Raisel Iglesias and Kenley Jansen look likelier targets. Realism over fantasy. 🔒
It’s a single-issue negotiation. MLB wants a cap, the players reject a cap. All of the details MLB has shared about its vision -- a number of which are good! -- are tied to the MLBPA accepting a cap system. Publicly, at least, the league has not put forth any vision of a non-capped league. The players, and again I’ll say this is based on what we know, appear to have no intention of accepting a payroll cap. Until one side or the other concedes on this point, there is nowhere for negotiations...
Offseason nuggets: Nick Hundley, who withdrew from last year's Giants managerial search for family reasons, is now the Rangers' VP of Player Development. Brian Sabean, newly out with the Yankees, said "You never know" on a Giants reunion. 🔄
Giants-to-Skubal chatter is speculation. Bob Nightengale called San Francisco a possible mystery team ("They got the money") but doesn't expect one, with the Dodgers still the favorite. Coming off a 65-97 year, the pitching needs help. 🤔
Former Giants slugger Tyler Austin was outrighted by the Cubs rather than released, so a return to MLB is still possible. He missed the 2026 season with a knee injury. He hit .185 with eight homers in 70 games for SF in 2019. 🔄
Offseason housekeeping: the Giants released six players on Tuesday, Nov. 3, all Dominican Summer League guys who never played above that level. Four came from DSL Giants Orange and two from DSL Giants Black. Low-level cuts, no big-league impact. 🧹
Giants365: Here are the rosters for Sunday's AFL Fall Stars Game
Giants' roster purge is done: Matt Gage and Seth Lonsway went outright to Sacramento, Reiver Sanmartín was designated for assignment. That leaves left-handed bullpen depth thin, with Sam Hentges the only lefty reliever of real experience. 🔍
Dalton Wentz, the Giants' 16th-round pick out of Wake Forest, is the standout among their Arizona Fall League group after a surprise invite. He got a fourth-round-level $584,955 bonus and posted a .797 OPS with Eugene. Not bad for a Round 16 slide. 📈
Rafael Devers could be on the move again: Jim Bowden expects the Giants to listen on trade proposals for every player, Devers included. He posted an .865 OPS with 37 homers in a pitcher-friendly park, so the market question is more interesting than the production one. 🔄
The Giants' social team put together a highlight reel of the best strikeouts from the 2026 season, following yesterday's walk-off compilation. Offseason content, but the punchouts get their own curtain call. 🎞️
One take says the Giants should skip free agents who received qualifying offers, including Bednar and Lowe. Signing one costs draft picks and bonus pool money, and with 2027 contention odds modest, the farm system is the priority. 🔒
Eldridge ranks high among 2026 rookies on MLB Pipeline's long-term value list, which weighs age, track record and projection rather than just this year's production. Pirates SS Konnor Griffin and Kevin McGonigle hold the top two spots. 📈
David Bell, the 2002 Giants postseason hero, resigned as Blue Jays assistant GM and VP of baseball operations, saying he wants to "reassess where I can make the greatest impact." He hit .304 in that playoff run, and his next stop is an open question. 🔍
Offseason chatter is rolling: Jim Bowden speculates the Giants could listen to offers on Logan Webb and Rafael Devers, though he isn't reporting it. Pitching remains the top need, and an outfield addition is floated too. 🔍
Hot stove calendar is set: GM meetings Nov 10-12, Rule 5 protection deadline Nov 17, and a possible lockout at midnight Dec 1. Arbitration-eligible Giants include Doval, Hentges, Walker and Schmitt, who's due a real raise. 🔥
MLB's PAC gave Mark Teixeira's congressional campaign $5,000 on June 8, the day of Giants' Pride Night. He later criticized MLB's warning to Giants players who wrote bible verses on their Pride Night hats. MLB hasn't commented. 🧾
Adrian Houser's first Giants season ended early with a forearm injury, but after losing his rotation spot he posted a 1.44 ERA over his last 12 outings, mostly in relief. He's back on the 40-man roster and could start, follow an opener, or give long relief. 🔄
MLB Trade Rumors predicts the Giants will reunite with lefty Steven Okert on a two-year, $14M deal. It's a prediction, not a done deal. With Sam Hentges the only projected lefty, Okert's 68 K to 14 BB in 2026 fits Posey's bullpen push. 🎯
Giants designated lefty Reiver Sanmartín for assignment, and declined RHP Rowan Wick's 2027 club option (he remains under team control). Sanmartín went 3-0 with a 4.22 ERA in 24 games in his first Giants season. He could be claimed elsewhere or return. 🔄
