Offseason clock is ticking for the Giants: the CBA expires December 1, with a lockout possible. Before then, they must reactivate 60-day IL players and decide on Rowan Wick's club option, and the Rule 5 protection deadline is November 17. 🗓️
Giants reassigned assistant pitching coach Christian Wonders to Director of Pitching, a post Brian Bannister once held. Justin Meccage is the lead pitching voice, Frank Anderson slides to assistant, and the shuffle trims the mixed messaging. 🔧
Eric Haase's 2026 was a short stay: a April call-up, .162/.235/.365 with four homers, including a grand slam against Milwaukee, then released July 23 for Susac's return. Giants may need veteran catcher depth next year. 🧢
Offseason purge begins: the Giants lost Grant McCray (Mariners) and Braxton Roxby (Nationals) on waiver claims, and outrighted Foley, Gage and Basabe to Triple-A. 16 players still need reinstating from the 60-day IL by Monday, so more cuts loom. ✂️
Giants' first roster purge trims the 40-man to 52 (with IL players still counted). Gage, Basabe and Foley cleared waivers and went to Triple-A; McCray and Roxby were claimed by the Mariners and Nationals. Still 12 over the limit, so more cuts loom. ✂️
Giants cleared 40-man space: Matt Gage, Jason Foley and Osleivis Basabe were outrighted, while Grant McCray (to Mariners) and Braxton Roxby (to Nationals) were lost on waivers. With 16 players on the 60-day IL, roster spots were needed. 🧹
The Giants began trimming the 40-man roster after a 65-97 season, outrighting Matt Gage, Jason Foley and Osleivis Basabe to Triple-A Sacramento. Grant McCray (Mariners) and Braxton Roxby (Nationals) were claimed on waivers. 🧹
Giants cleared five 40-man spots Thursday. Gage, Basabe and Foley cleared waivers and were outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento, while McCray (Mariners) and Roxby (Nationals) were claimed. More cuts loom as injured players return from the 60-day IL. ✂️
Mariners claimed outfielder Grant McCray off waivers from the Giants as the offseason opened. SF also outrighted Matt Gage, Osleivis Basabe and Jason Foley to Triple-A Sacramento, and Braxton Roxby went to Washington. Buster Posey's cleanup begins. 🧹

MLB Trade Rumors (Giants): Mariners Claim Grant McCray
JT Brubaker is the Giants' lone free agent as the offseason opens. The reliever posted a 3.58 ERA over 60 1/3 innings in 41 games on a $1.8M deal. Buster Posey must decide on a return, with a 65-97 bullpen needing arms. 🔧
Drew Gilbert shed the goofball label in 2026, hitting .238/.330/.394 with 11 HR and 43 RBI in 134 games after a mid-April call-up. He likely returns as a center field platoon option, since lefties remain a problem: 5 hits in 63 at-bats. 🧢
Jorge Posada says he doesn't feel welcome with the Yankees, and the Giants offer the opposite case: Buster Posey got baseball operations with no experience. After a 65-97 season, that approach is fair to question, though it's early to call it a mistake.
Ex-Giant Kyle Harrison now owns a World Series ring after Milwaukee beat Tampa Bay in 5 games. He went 11-5 with a 4.20 ERA but never pitched in the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Giants went 65-97. Different October, different zip code. 💍
The Giants are reportedly expected to chase a trade for a starter, with Tampa Bay's Drew Rasmussen floated as a fit. Rasmussen posted a 2.67 ERA and 0.91 WHIP and will earn $20M in 2027. Posey is said to be wary of Skubal-level free-agent prices. 🎯
Ex-Giants infielders Charlie Culberson (Savannah Bananas) and Kelby Tomlinson (Loco Beach Coconuts) were picked in the Banana Ball draft for 2027. Culberson's 2012 trade helped bring Marco Scutaro to SF. Banana Ball also hits Oracle Park in 2027. 🍌
Giants' pitching staff gets streamlined: Justin Meccage stays pitching coach, Frank Anderson becomes assistant, Jesse Chavez remains bullpen coach, and Christian Wonders shifts to minors development. Next up: Massacre Day, with a packed 60-day list and one open 40-man spot. 🔪
The Giants embraced the Year of the Bunt under Tony Vitello, hitting .500 on 67 bunt attempts, up from 41 in 2024 and 39 in 2025. The Rays (129 PAs) and Brewers (89) led the way, but San Francisco finally zigged too. 🔒
