The Astros hired Guardians assistant director of hitting development Conner Watson as their director of hitting. He spent two seasons in Cleveland, and Houston filled the role before naming a GM or manager. Cleveland's hitting lab just lost a piece. 🧪
Guardians' season ended in a Game 6 loss to the Rays, their deepest run in a decade. Silver linings: Tanner Bibee won his second Fielding Bible Award, and Stephen Vogt shut down Mariners chatter: "I'm coming back" in 2027. 🔒
Speculation suggests the Guardians could consider trading Jo Adell this offseason. He added a bat at the deadline, but he posted a .588 OPS against righties in Cleveland and is projected to earn almost $10 million in arbitration. Nothing is confirmed.
MLB Trade Rumors (Guardians): Astros Hire Connor Watson As Director Of Hitting
Extension talk ahead of the Dec. 1 lockout: the case is that Cleveland should consider locking up Chase DeLauter, Parker Messick or Cade Smith. It would need both sides to agree, and it's a proposal, not a done deal. Get ahead of the freeze. 🔒
Kody Huff is the Guardians' clearest Rule 5 protection candidate. The catcher posted an .888 OPS with 23 homers in 120 Triple-A games in 2026, and he could be a backup option if Austin Hedges leaves. A possible lockout may complicate the draft. 🔒
Guardians' season ended in ALCS Game 6 against the Rays. The offense was wildly inconsistent (11 runs over the last five games), and the rotation faltered, with Parker Messick looking gassed. Successful year, still a letdown. 📉
Speculation: after an ALCS run, Cleveland's young-talent surplus could make shortstop Brayan Rocchio a trade candidate. With Travis Bazzana at second and top prospect Ángel Genao MLB-ready, the infield math gets crowded. 🔄
Guardians could target World Series players this offseason, with Brewers lefty JoJo Romero (1.69 postseason ERA, ~$4.26M salary) a cheap bullpen fit. Aaron Ashby's swingman value is noted, though a Brewers trade looks unlikely. 🎯
Brewers lead the Rays 2-0 in the World Series, both wins by a run. The takeaway for Guardians fans: Cleveland could have won the ALCS and still gotten trounced by Milwaukee. With the team's season over, Guardians news goes quiet for a while. 😕
Guardians brass says Steven Kwan isn't going anywhere, even with one arbitration year left and a projected $11.3MM salary. Antonetti expects him to be "a big part of a contending team next year." After the ALCS loss to the Rays, the offseason starts with Kwan staying put. 🧢
Relievers Connor Brogdon and Carlos Hernández elected minor league free agency, a minor dent in Guardians pitching depth. Neither was central to 2026 plans, though both pitched for Cleveland down the stretch. Depth arms out, offseason looming. 🔧
Kahlil Watson's bilateral core muscle surgery carries an 8-12 week recovery, but the offseason timing means it shouldn't threaten his 2027 role. The outfielder hit .239 with a homer in 27 MLB games and showed steady defense. 🩹
A fan-fiction "cathartic chapter" processes the Guardians' season ending, with Tampa making the plays and Cleveland not. Then it turns to a Monty Python-style skit roasting Paul Dolan's payroll, the missed Jo Adell and Foster Griffin moves, and fan experience. 🛡️
Caminero and Diaz hit those homers off pitchers who didn’t have much left to give. Even with the rainout, a blowout loss, and some offdays, Cade Smith and Hunter Gaddis had been worked extremely hard over the last couple of weeks. The two of them pitched in nine of the Guardians’ 11 playoff games over 17 days. Nine appearances in 17 days would be a lot for a reliever in the regular season; to pitch so often in postseason conditions was that much harder. Vogt’s decision to lift Parker Messick...
Steven Kwan trade chatter is back: he posted a 72 wRC+ before July 1 and 158 after, plus strong center field defense. The writer pegs his staying in Cleveland at 6.5 out of 10, with no ready CF replacement and a lockout looming.
Stephen Vogt managed hands-on in the playoffs, steering the Guardians through the Championship Series with just two true starters, Parker Messick among them. Lots of managing, though not always smart managing. 🧰
Ex-Guardians are guaranteed a ring: Jake Bauers (Brewers, NLCS MVP) faces Yandy Díaz and Junior Caminero's Rays in the World Series. Cleveland's "what if" list keeps growing, and Caminero, once a Cleveland prospect, is a World Series MVP candidate. 🔍
Right-handers Connor Brogdon and Carlos Hernández elected free agency from the Guardians' system. Brogdon's $900K flier produced a 5.06 ERA over 16 innings, and Hernández allowed two earned runs in three innings after a Sept. 1 selection.
Kahlil Watson had surgery Tuesday to repair a bilateral core muscle (sports hernia) injury. No firm timetable, though similar cases run 8-12 weeks. The 23-year-old outfielder enters 2027 as depth, with two minor league options left.
