A Mariners-Diamondbacks pitching trade is floated as a speculative fit: Arizona reportedly wants a controllable starter, and Seattle has surplus arms but needs right-handed bats. A Bryce Miller-for-Jordan Lawlar swap is only an idea, not a done deal. 🔄
Mariners could target free-agent reliever Bryan Abreu, whose 80 strikeouts in 62.2 innings in 2026 would help the bullpen. His 15.3% walk rate is the red flag. This is a suggestion, not a reported pursuit, and no Seattle contact is verified.
Mariners declined 2027 options on Bryce Miller and Victor Robles, and Arozarena, Crawford, Milner and Ward filed for free agency. Payroll sits near $143.3M versus ~$164M in 2026, so trimming more could be needed to fund big moves. 💰
Early 2027 math says the Mariners, at 30.1 fWAR in 2026 (21st), would need roughly 15 more WAR to return to the postseason. The same roster was once projected for 43.4 WAR, so a bounce-back is plausible. The offseason is dynasty or cliff. 📉
The Mariners claimed outfielder Grant McCray off waivers from the Giants on day one of the offseason. They also announced decisions on three team options, while Lookout Landing debated Joe Espada and Jason Kanzler as the next manager. 🧾
ESPN ranks the Mariners 11th and The Athletic 10th in early 2027 power rankings, despite a 76-86 finish and no postseason in 2026. The optimism seems to treat the down year as a fluke, with Julio Rodríguez, Cal Raleigh and Andrés Muñoz all struggling. 🤨
Mariners head into the offseason with a long injury list. Cal Raleigh (shoulder) and Josh Naylor (wrist) had Oct. 3 surgeries and are expected back for spring training. Colt Emerson, Luke Raley and others are also rehabbing. 🩹
Brewers are World Series champs, and the Mariners get a blueprint. A 22-0 loss in Milwaukee in August now looks like a lesson from the best. Top takeaway: patience. Milwaukee swung at a league-low 43.8% of pitches and chased just 26.6%. 🧠
The Mariners exercised closer Andres Munoz's $9 million option for 2027 on Thursday, and they declined two other options. It comes after what the snippet calls the right-hander's toughest season with the club. Seattle keeps its closer. 🔒
Mariners claimed outfielder Grant McCray off waivers from the Giants and added him to the 40-man roster. His bat has lagged (.170/.235/.323 in 102 MLB games), but he's 13-for-13 on steals with 95th-percentile sprint speed. Pinch-runner upside, anyway. 🏃
Mariners declined options on Bryce Miller and Victor Robles, accepted closer Andres Munoz's. Robles hits free agency, freeing $9M. Miller (4.17 ERA, 6.05 in the second half) stays under control via arbitration. Offseason, now with a bench bat hunt. ⚾
Mariners picked up Andrés Muñoz's $10M option, betting on a bounceback after a 4.24 ERA but a 3.34 FIP. They declined Víctor Robles ($9M) and Bryce Miller ($6.075M); Miller stays under team control via arbitration. 🔒
Mariners exercised closer Andrés Muñoz's $9 million option, keeping their top bullpen arm, but declined options on starter Bryce Miller and outfielder Victor Robles, per Bob Nightengale. Both hit free agency. Offseason housekeeping, done early. 🔒
Transaction Alert: Seattle Mariners claimed CF Grant McCray off waivers from San Francisco Giants. 📋
Mariners claimed outfielder Grant McCray off waivers from the Giants, who are staring down a 56-man 40-man roster. He's a 95th-percentile sprinter (13 steals, never caught) with a .170/.235/.323 line over 102 MLB games. Speed first, bat TBD. 🏃
Mariners picked up Andrés Muñoz's 2027 option, keeping the closer in the bullpen, but declined Bryce Miller's (he stays under club control) and Victor Robles' options. Robles joins Arozarena, Crawford, Milner and Ward as free agents. 📋
Mariners picked up Andrés Muñoz's $9MM option despite a career-worst 4.24 ERA, and declined options on Bryce Miller ($6.075MM, still arbitration-controlled through 2029) and Victor Robles ($9MM, now a free agent). Tidy housekeeping. 🧹
Transaction Alert: RF Victor Robles has elected free agency and will join the Seattle Mariners. ✍️
The Brewers' World Series title leaves the Mariners as the only franchise never to reach the Fall Classic, and one of just four without a championship. After a 2026 season billed as the most disappointing in franchise history, the wait stretches on. 😬
Mariners coaching staff overhaul watch: this installment floats Todd Takayoshi (A's), Nic Wilson (Rockies), Ryley Westman (Padres), Ed Lucas (Giants) and Jake Lamb (D-backs) as possible targets. Lamb, the Seattle-born ex-Mariner, gets a "bring him home" pitch. 🏠
