Jackson Holliday could be a speculative O's trade candidate this winter. Moving the 22-year-old infielder might ease the infield logjam and add pitching or outfield help. Listening to offers isn't shopping, though, and Henderson looks unlikely to go. 🤔
Reds-focused speculation has Colton Cowser as a possible center field fit in Cincinnati, with Baltimore reportedly open to major roster changes and everyone but Pete Alonso available. Cowser hit 24 homers as a rookie but has struggled since. Just a pitch, not a deal. 🤔
Samuel Basallo's rookie year peaked early: .283/.345/.516 with nine homers through May, then a second-half slide and a shoulder injury. Solid blocking and pop time offer hope, but framing and challenges need work heading into 2027.
Four Orioles prospects made the AFL Fall Stars Game: Vance Honeycutt (1.075 OPS, 3 HR, 18 BB to 16 K), Ike Irish (.896 OPS), and Tommy John returnees Patrick Reilly (2.87 ERA) and Braxton Bragg. Health is the real win. 🔥
Three Orioles prospects face make-or-break 2027 seasons. Trey Gibson, who debuted in early May at Yankee Stadium, struggled with walks and putting hitters away, and he spent the rest of the summer back in the minors. The clock is ticking on his long-term place in Baltimore. ⏳
Orioles need catching help behind Samuel Basallo, who hit just .140 after the break and ended the year with a concussion. Carlos Narváez, acquired in the Rutschman deal, hit .104 in 33 games, so "run it back" looks like a hard sell. 🧤
Possible Orioles rotation targets include Minnesota's Joe Ryan, the Angels' Reid Detmers and Seattle's Emerson Hancock by trade, plus free agents like Kevin Gausman, Nick Martinez and Clay Holmes. Cost in talent is the catch. 🎯
The Orioles gave Trevor Rogers the one-year, $23.15M qualifying offer, a smart first move. Even if he walks, they'd collect high-round draft compensation, and the QO may thin his suitors. Retaining their top starter is still unfinished work. ⚾
Pete Alonso is a Silver Slugger finalist at first base after leading the AL with 43 homers and 113 RBIs in his first Orioles season. Boston's Willson Contreras is the competition; winners are announced Nov. 17. 🔨
Pete Alonso is a Silver Slugger finalist at first base after leading the AL with 43 homers and 113 RBIs in his first Orioles season. His 149 OPS+ was a career best. Willson Contreras of the Red Sox is the other finalist; winners come Nov. 17. 🏆
Pete Alonso is an AL Silver Slugger finalist after a 40-homer first year in Baltimore on his five-year, $155M deal. He's the only player with 40+ homers in his first season in each league. Winners drop Nov. 17. 🔨
Adley Rutschman's O's run ended quietly: traded to Boston at the Aug. 3 deadline while on the IL, after a 116 OPS+ and third All-Star nod. The Orioles got Carlos Narváez and four prospects, but still haven't won a playoff game in the Elias era.
Reports say the Orioles are open to trading nearly anyone except Pete Alonso, with Gunnar Henderson available only if they're blown away. A Cardinals-focused look at 3B options pegs Henderson's trade value at roughly $60 million. 🔍
Orioles rotation minus Trevor Rogers looks thin: Bradish, Baz, Young, Povich and Gibson project as the five. Mike Elias needs front- and back-end help before a December lockout hits, and trade ideas are circulating, but no answers yet. ⏳
Orioles could add a catcher to pair with Samuel Basallo, whose time behind the plate the team wants to limit. Carlos Narváez hit .104 in 33 games with Baltimore, and Austin Hedges is floated as a defense-first option. 🧤
Trevor Rogers headlines the Orioles' free-agent class, ranking 2nd on MLBTradeRumors' top 50 and 3rd on FanGraphs. Luis Robert Jr. is the only other Oriole on three top-50 lists, projected at one year, $10.5M-$14M. Chris Bassitt is a free agent again. 📉
Mailbag take: the Orioles likely need trades to add, with a thin free-agent market. Henderson seems unlikely to move, since it would mean selling low. Holliday could be a chip for outfield or pitching help. Cowser's defense might keep him in Baltimore. 🔄
It’s a single-issue negotiation. MLB wants a cap, the players reject a cap. All of the details MLB has shared about its vision -- a number of which are good! -- are tied to the MLBPA accepting a cap system. Publicly, at least, the league has not put forth any vision of a non-capped league. The players, and again I’ll say this is based on what we know, appear to have no intention of accepting a payroll cap. Until one side or the other concedes on this point, there is nowhere for negotiations...
Bleacher Report's Tim Kelly predicts the Orioles could sign free-agent righty Clay Holmes to a two-year, $48M deal, with a club option for 2029, as a possible fallback if Trevor Rogers leaves. Holmes posted a 3.29 ERA over 101 1/3 innings in 2026.
The Orioles reportedly would listen to offers on everyone but Pete Alonso, per the Banner's Andy Kostka, as they chase rotation and outfield help after a 79-82 year. Harold Reynolds read it as a willingness to start over, though listening isn't shopping. 🔥
