Jase Bowen earned a C- in the Padres' roster report card: .146 average, .438 OPS and two homers in 83 games, mostly as a late defensive replacement. His glove (+2 Fielding Run Value) shines, but he may need more Triple-A seasoning in a stacked outfield.
Six former Padres are in the 2026 Brewers-Rays World Series. Nick Martinez (15-6, 3.10 ERA) and Jorge Mateo suit up for Tampa Bay, and Gary Sánchez joins them for Milwaukee. Jake Bauers, the NLCS MVP, is a former Padres draftee. 🔎
Padres prospect Alex McCoy, San Diego's No. 26 prospect, has posted AFL exit velocities near the top of league Statcast history (dating to 2015). His 118.2 mph, 435-foot homer ranked fourth all-time. The next test: making that power work against better pitching. 💥
With a possible Dec. 2 lockout looming, the Padres could open a short offseason with a trade. One idea: package Jake Cronenworth with Freddie Fermin or Luis Campusano for a starter or bench help, with re-signing Ty France the priority. 🔄
Ethan Salas looks like the Padres' catcher of the future and should graduate from prospect lists early in 2027. Behind him, the upper Minors are thin, but RHP Tucker Musgrove (68 Ks in 34 1/3 IP) could reach the bullpen next season. 🔥
Gavin Sheets is projected to earn $6.5M in arbitration, up from $4.5M, and the Padres, facing tight budgets, may move on. A foot injury cut short his season (102 wRC+), and Ty France took over at first base. 💸
Judge stayed with the Yankees on a nine-year, $360 million deal, and their offensive struggles now make the Padres' pursuit look different. The big bat would've raised the ceiling, but his salary could have squeezed pitching and the rest of the roster. 🤔
Joe Musgrove's return from Tommy John surgery is encouraging, but the Padres shouldn't build their 2027 rotation around him. With King likely to opt out and Pivetta's option pending, A.J. Preller needs multiple credible starters added. 🔧
Padres reportedly lean toward giving Adrian Morejon a $23.15M qualifying offer. The case: no internal lefty replacement, 70+ appearances a year, and draft-pick compensation if he walks. Morejon has said he wants to stay, so the call is his. 🤔
Padres rotation help for 2027 is the focus: four hypothetical trade ideas, including Rays' Drew Rasmussen and Angels' Reid Detmers. These are proposed packages only, not talks, and Rasmussen's availability hinges on Tampa Bay declining his $20 million option.
Ramón Laureano could be a cheap re-sign: the article floats a prove-it deal (roughly $1-3M plus incentives) after hip surgery ended his 2026 in June. He hit .203 in 53 games, and left field is open. A low-risk flier, if the hip holds. 🩹
Padres No. 13 prospect Kannon Kemp has opened the Arizona Fall League with four hitless innings and five strikeouts, his fastball nearing 100 mph. After injuries and a 6.28 ERA, the case is to be patient and develop him rather than trade him. 🔥
Jackson Merrill quietly joined the exclusive 25-25 club in 2026 with 26 homers and 27 steals, but his early struggles overshadowed a stellar second-half surge. Despite a .304 average post-All-Star break, his overall numbers lagged behind peers. ⏳
Padres' new owners, José E. Feliciano and Kwanza Jones, face a pivotal offseason with potential lockout looming. Priorities include re-signing Ty France and bolstering the rotation to reassure fans of their commitment to a strong 2027 season. ⚾️
The Padres face another offseason needing rotation reinforcements, while hefty contracts for Machado, Tatis Jr., and Bogaerts shape their payroll landscape. With $1 billion in future commitments, strategic moves are crucial to elevate their roster.
Teruaki Sato's availability could be a game-changer for the Padres. Signing the Japanese slugger might boost their offense without sacrificing prospects, giving San Diego more flexibility to address pitching. A bold move for new ownership to show commitment.
The Padres must prioritize Ethan Salas' playing-time strategy before constructing their 2027 roster. Balancing his catching and DH appearances is crucial, especially with potential offseason additions that could limit his opportunities. Salas' development is key for San Diego's future. 📰
Ethan Salas' rapid ascent to the Padres' big league roster has been remarkable. After a standout Minor League season, he joined the team in September, adding depth with his left-handed bat and defensive prowess. A promising future is unfolding for San Diego's top prospect.
The Padres face a key offseason decision: Should they re-sign reliever Jason Adam? Despite injury setbacks, Adam's potential remains high. A "prove-it" deal might keep him in San Diego, contingent on decisions about Adrian Morejon and Yuki Matsui. 🔄
With Luis Campusano solidifying his role, rumors swirl about the Padres potentially trading Gold Glove finalist Freddy Fermin. His stellar defense might attract interest, but his bat remains a question. Could Fermin be on the move this offseason? 🤔
