Jerry Koosman, the left-handed pitcher who closed out a 19-year major league career with the Phillies, has died at 83. He passed away Sunday at his home in Osceola, Wisconsin, reportedly from heart failure after about a year of ailments.
SNY's Josh Harper predicts the Phillies could sign two-time All-Star Jazz Chisholm Jr. to replace pending free agent Luis Arraez. Chisholm swiped 41 bases with 19 homers in a down Yankees year. Speed or awareness? A projection, not a deal. 🤔
Happy 144th, Phillies. The franchise was founded as Philadelphia Ball Club Limited on Nov. 1, 1882, and is still the oldest one-name, one-city team in American pro sports. The tally: 10,391 wins, eight pennants, two World Series titles. 🎂
José Alvarado elected free agency after six years with the Phillies, coming off a rough 5-4, 5.86 ERA line in 68 games. The 31-year-old lefty is now free to sign anywhere ahead of 2027 Spring Training. 📉
Seiya Suzuki is pitched as the right-handed bat the Phillies' outfield needs this offseason. The free agent hit .270/.368/.473 with 26 homers in 2026. Spending Middleton's money on a fix is the suggested route, not a done deal. 💰
New Phillies hitting coach Peter Fatse inherits MLB's worst OPS+ despite a top-four payroll. His early priorities: texting Trea Turner and planning visits to rebuild his confidence, plus working with sophomore center fielder Justin Crawford.
Speculation, not a signing: ESPN's David Schoenfield names the Phillies the top fit for free-agent lefty Adrian Morejon, and SNY's John Harper projects Dave Dombrowski landing him. A bullpen that ranked 21st in ERA needs help beyond Jhoan Duran. 🔒
Edmundo Sosa, the Phillies' utility infielder since 2022, hit free agency when the World Series ended, one of seven Phillies players to do so. The 30-year-old's five-season Philly run is now officially a question mark. 🔍
The Good Phight: If you could turn the clock back to a Phillies era, which would it be?
Seven Phillies hit free agency, including ex-All-Star lefty Nestor Cortes, who signed a minors deal midseason and never reached the big league roster. Alvarado, Raley, Arraez, Bohm, Garcia and Sosa also left, dropping the 40-man to 32. 🔍
A Heavy Sports trade pitch, not a deal, has the Phillies landing Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran for prospect Carson DeMartini and reliever Andrew Hoffmann. Duran hit .207 with 20 HR and 21 SB, so he's pitched as a bounce-back outfield upgrade. 🔄
Offseason link dump: Dave Dombrowski can't repeat past mistakes, and Justin Crawford is pegged as a prime beneficiary of the new hitting coach. The Phillies would love to rewind to when the offense was the better one. ⏪
Bryce Harper hinted on TikTok that the 2027 offseason will be a long one, as a lockout looms when the CBA expires Dec. 1 over owners' salary cap push. Executives reportedly expect a start around Memorial Day weekend. Harper's quip: "It will be this year." ⏳
Bryce Harper replied "It will be this year" on TikTok to a user saying the offseason feels like March to October, fueling fears of an MLB lockout. The CBA expires Dec. 1, with owners pushing a salary cap the union opposes. ⚠️
Felix Reyes is heading to Dominican winter ball, a good sign after a wrist fracture ended his 2026. The outfielder hit .158 in 12 games with the Phillies, but a homer off Chris Sale in his debut at-bat was the high point. Extra reps could help. ⚾
On this date in 2008, two million fans packed Broad Street for the Phillies' World Series parade, ending the city's 25-year title drought and the so-called Curse of Billy Penn. Pat Burrell led the way atop a Clydesdale-drawn carriage. 🏆
Phillies offseason priorities: Bohm and Arraez hit free agency, so a short-term infield add makes sense, with Aidan Miller waiting in the wings. A corner bat is the bigger question mark, with Adolis Garcia's season-ending surgery leaving right field open. Bullpen is also on watch. 🔍
Phillies exited in the 2026 Wild Card round, and ClutchPoints argues they should consider free agency help. Bohm and Arraez are now free agents, and the rotation, bullpen and outfield need depth. Freddy Peralta and Sean Newcomb are floated as targets. 🎯
The Brewers won the 2026 World Series after sweeping the Dodgers in the NLCS, and Crossing Broad argues the Phillies' lineup could learn from that. The Phillies already moved on from Kevin Long and hired Peter Fatse, but the offense's approach is still under scrutiny. ⚾
The Phillies' outfield ended 2026 with questions at all three spots. This offseason outlook weighs Brandon Marsh's ~$9M tender decision, Justin Crawford's role, and free-agent targets, with Teruaki Sato the predicted top fit. 🔍
