Pirates' 2026 Minor League awards: Murf Gray took Player of the Year after hitting .305 with 32 homers and a .969 OPS across three levels. Seth Hernandez won Pitcher of the Year (2.43 ERA, 118 K) and has his sights set on the big leagues in 2027. 🏆
Pirates' top 2025 picks Seth Hernandez (6-1, 2.43 ERA, 118 K in 74 IP) and Murf Gray (.305/.402/.567, 32 HR, reached Double-A) both want to reach Pittsburgh in 2027. Hernandez says he's 100% healthy after an oblique injury. 🔭
Pirates prospect Irwin Ramirez, 19, was named Rookie-Level Pitcher of the Year. He sits around 100 mph with 50%+ whiff rates on his slider and changeup, but posted 36 walks and a 6.75 ERA in 41 1/3 innings at Low-A Bradenton. 🔥
Pirates minor-league awards are in: Murf Gray took Player of the Year (.305/.402/.567, 32 HR, 97 RBI across three levels) and Seth Hernandez took Pitcher of the Year (2.43 ERA, 118 K in 74 IP) before his oblique injury. 🏆
Reinold Navarro, PBN's No. 10 Pirates prospect, fanned 135 across Low-A Bradenton and High-A Greensboro, most in the system. The 20-year-old lefty has a triple-digit fastball and wipeout slider, but 70 walks in 79 innings cap his ceiling. 🔥
The Rays are headed to their third World Series, while the Pirates still haven't won a postseason series since 1979 or reached an NLCS since 1992. Tampa Bay manages it on a small-market budget; Pittsburgh offers more rebuild promises. 🔧
Murf Gray is the Pirates' Willie Stargell Slugger of the Year after a first pro season with 32 homers, tops among Pirates minor leaguers, and a .969 OPS across three levels. A 2027 arrival at third base is plausible. ☄️
Brewers lefty Aaron Ashby's multi-inning postseason work, including a three-inning NLCS save, is a model for Carmen Mlodzinski. After a year of role flip-flopping, the Pirates could use him in multi-inning, high-leverage relief rather than juggling rotation spots. 🔒
Termarr Johnson, the No. 4 pick in 2022, hit just .199/.336/.319 at Triple-A Indianapolis before August surgery for a torn ACL and LCL. The walks (68) remain, but the bat hasn't followed, and his Pirates future looks murkier than ever. 🩹
The Pirates need to reevaluate their roster strategy after the Rays showcased the importance of defense in the playoffs. While Nick Gonzales thrived offensively, Pittsburgh's infield defense could learn from Tampa Bay's emphasis on run prevention. 🧱
Hunter Goodman could be a perfect fit for the Pirates, offering right-handed power and addressing their catching needs. However, the potential trade cost may outweigh the benefits, making it a risky move for Pittsburgh. ⚾️
The Pirates could eye Astros' Isaac Paredes to fill their third base void after Brandon Lowe's standout season. With Houston's infield depth, a deal might work for both sides. "Pittsburgh Paredes" has a nice ring to it, but it's all speculation for now.
The Pirates should focus on spotting undervalued talent like the Rays did with Junior Caminero, who became a key ALCS hero. Enhancing their trade strategy could be crucial for future success.
The Pirates' Minor League awards spotlight rising stars: Johan De Los Santos shines with a .270 average and 39 steals, earning Rookie-Level Player of the Year. Irwin Ramirez claims Pitcher of the Year, reflecting talent brewing in the Pirates' system.
Pirates fans have mixed feelings as Tampa Bay heads to the World Series. Despite Pittsburgh's successful trade acquiring Lowe, Mangum, and Montgomery, Tampa's achievement highlights the bittersweet nature of player moves. ⚾
Mason Montgomery transformed into the Pirates' bullpen ace, posting a remarkable 25 scoreless outings streak. With a 1.14 ERA, 40.9% K rate, and 16 saves post-Trade Deadline, he turned a weak spot into a strength, standing out as a top MLB reliever.
Pirates prospect Carlos Tejera is making waves early. The 20-year-old outfielder impressed in his first pro season, showcasing solid speed and a well-rounded offensive game. With strong performances in the Dominican Summer and Florida Complex leagues, Tejera's future looks promising. ⚾
Jared Triolo is a Gold Glove finalist for the third time as the NL's top utility defender. His stellar 2026 season featured standout performances at shortstop and third base. Fellow Pirate Brandon Lowe also vies for defensive honors. 🏆
With Brandon Lowe potentially leaving the Pirates in free agency, speculation suggests Zack Gelof could be a trade target to fill the void. Lowe's impressive power and glove make him a tough act to follow, and Gelof might just fit the bill.
Brandon Lowe's defensive transformation with the Pirates is noteworthy, as he evolved from a liability to a Gold Glove finalist. Yet, Pittsburgh faces losing him to free agency, potentially turning this success into an offseason blunder. 🧤
