Rangers offseason board is filling up: the club reportedly has interest in a Japanese high school pitcher, though obstacles remain. Zeke Duran, fresh off a Gold Glove, is also a first-time Silver Slugger nominee. Free agency previews are rolling in. 🧢
Evan Carter's hip surgery likely sidelines him into 2027, and Chris Young calls center field a "primary focus." Trent Grisham and Tyrone Taylor are floated as one-year options, with Grisham possibly sliding to a corner while Langford covers center. 🎯
The Rangers reportedly plan to shop Corey Seager and Jacob deGrom, and possibly Nathan Eovaldi, this offseason. With a ~$190M payroll and $92M tied up in the three, Evan Grant says "there simply is no other way." All hold no-trade clauses. 🔄
Rangers reportedly met with 18-year-old Japanese high school righty Shoki Oda, whose fastball touches 97 mph. Landing him is a long shot, with the Dodgers and Yankees also reportedly meeting him, and he'd skip NPB for the IFA route. ⚾
Rangers reportedly could explore trading Corey Seager, Jacob deGrom and Nathan Eovaldi to cut payroll, per Ken Rosenthal. Finding takers won't be easy, since all three have no-trade protection. Big contracts, bigger hurdles. 💰
Rangers' Duran is a first-time Silver Slugger finalist. Winners will be announced Nov. 17, with managers and coaches doing the voting, and none of them can vote for their own players. Recognition from the people who game-plan against him. 🏆
Ezequiel Duran, fresh off the AL utility Gold Glove, is a Silver Slugger finalist at utility. No utility player has won both in one season. Winners come Nov. 17. "The Solution" has the résumé: .260/.320/.419, 109 wRC+. 🧤
Chris Young expects the Rangers' 2027 payroll to be "very similar" to 2026's roughly $193 million, leaving about $20 million of room. He says no one has to be moved, but trading one player to strengthen two spots is on the table. 💼
Jeffers and Morejon both got qualifying offers, so signing either could cost the Rangers draft compensation. Carson Kelly (ESPN projects two years, $17M) and Sean Newcomb are floated as cheaper alternatives. 🧾
Former Rangers first baseman Mark Teixeira, the No. 5 pick in 2001, won Texas' 21st Congressional District, defeating Democrat Kristin Hook and succeeding Chip Roy. From Arlington to Capitol Hill: a career pivot with 409 homers behind it. 🗳️
It’s a single-issue negotiation. MLB wants a cap, the players reject a cap. All of the details MLB has shared about its vision -- a number of which are good! -- are tied to the MLBPA accepting a cap system. Publicly, at least, the league has not put forth any vision of a non-capped league. The players, and again I’ll say this is based on what we know, appear to have no intention of accepting a payroll cap. Until one side or the other concedes on this point, there is nowhere for negotiations...
Ezequiel Duran is the 2026 Rangers Player of the Year: 4.2 bWAR, a utility Gold Glove, and a .260/.320/.419 line across 153 games. Jacob Latz (2.13 ERA, 30 saves) took Pitcher of the Year, and Peyton Gray won Rookie of the Year. 🏆
Trade chatter: Evan Grant reports the Rangers will shop Corey Seager and Jacob deGrom, and one idea has the Braves, needing a shortstop and rotation help, absorbing both contracts. Nothing is agreed, and the Braves reportedly wouldn't need to give up much prospect capital. 🔄
Former Rangers All-Star Mark Teixeira won his U.S. House race on Election Day, running as a Republican to represent Texas's 21st Congressional District. He beat Democrat Kristin Hook for the seat Chip Roy left open. From first base to the House floor. 🗳️
Rangers reportedly plan to shop Corey Seager and Jacob deGrom, and perhaps Nathan Eovaldi, to cut payroll. The trio's $92M of a roughly $190M payroll is the sticking point, and those contracts could limit any prospect return. 💰
Former Rangers first-rounder Mark Teixeira just swapped the batter's box for Capitol Hill, winning Texas' 21st congressional district seat as a Republican. The No. 5 pick in 2001 spent his first four and a half seasons in Arlington. 🗳️
Rangers shortstop Sebastian Walcott, MLB Pipeline's No. 8 prospect, is on the American League roster for Sunday's Arizona Fall League Fall Stars Game. He's one of six Top 100 prospects on the AL squad. ⭐
Chris Young says the Rangers' 2027 payroll stays flat around $190M, with no need to trade top earners. But deGrom, Seager and Eovaldi eat nearly half of it, so building a contender leans on trades and a bullpen fix. 🧮
Chris Young says the Rangers' 2027 payroll will be "very similar" to 2026, with competitiveness still the goal. Roster changes are coming, and trades are how he plans to reallocate dollars. Projections sit about $20MM below this year's $193MM. 💰
Eight players got $23.15 million qualifying offers, but the Rangers issued none. Signing any of them would cost Texas draft compensation. Past QO deals include Martín Pérez's acceptance, plus deGrom and Eovaldi signing in 2022. 📜
