Chad Tracy's Red Sox have turned overlooked players into contributors, and six non-40-man minor leaguers could be next in 2027: Blake Wehunt, Brooks Brannon, Henry Godbout, Jack Winnay, Steven Brooks and Isaiah Jackson. Roster space and injuries will decide it. 🔎
Former Red Sox hitting coach Pete Fatse is headed to Philadelphia. The Phillies hired him, per The Athletic, to replace Kevin Long under Don Mattingly for 2027. Fatse was fired with Alex Cora on April 25, then consulted for the Rays. 🔄
Boston paid five players (Eyanson, Witherspoon, Azocar, Rivas, Narváez) for Adley Rutschman, who hits free agency after 2027. Craig Breslow stayed vague on extension talks, but with no catcher ready in the pipeline, the pressure is on. 🔒
Payton Tolle's rookie breakout carries into October: the Red Sox lefty is an official MLB World Series correspondent, interviewing Yelich and Caminero at Media Day and tailgating fans in Milwaukee. He also rode Bernie Brewer's slide. Content secured. 🎤
The Phillies reportedly hired ex-Red Sox hitting coach Pete Fatse, fired with Alex Cora on April 25. Speculation says it's a lure for Cora in 2028. Cora, though, says he has no 2027 plans and isn't sure he'll manage again. 🎣
Rays' Game 1 World Series starter Nick Martinez could be a fit for Boston this offseason. The 36-year-old (3.10 ERA, 180 IP, first-time All-Star) is a swingman who'd add rotation or bullpen flexibility, if the budget allows. 🎯
Payton Tolle's World Series correspondent gig for MLB is making the case for a Red Sox extension. The lefty was a natural interviewing Junior Caminero, and the argument runs beyond his arm: he's a star ambassador for Boston. 🎤
Caleb Durbin's trade looks like a draw. After a .530 OPS through May, he hit .326/.359/.605 in June and helped fuel Boston's Wild Card run, finishing with 13 homers, 20 steals and a 100 wRC+. Kyle Harrison thrived early in Milwaukee. 🔄
Six months after being fired amid a 10-17 start, Alex Cora says he knew what was coming when Breslow, Henry and Kennedy flew to Baltimore. His main gripe: coaches took the fall too. He also regrets his initial social media comments. 🎙️
Antonio Anderson keeps rolling in the Arizona Fall League: 3-for-10 with his first triple, three runs and three walks. Harry Blum, Madinson Frias and Trennor O'Donnell each tossed scoreless relief for Mesa, while Allan Castro slumped in LIDOM (1-for-13). 📈
Alex Cora, fired in April, says on a podcast that Boston's poor early pitching cost him his job. He also cited Fenway vibes and Craig Breslow's lack of belief, and he has turned down two Phillies managerial offers. Ace notes the offense was also struggling.
Looking back at 2026, OTM points to the Curtis Mead trade as a deflating deadline move for the Red Sox. His injury compounded it, derailing a July team that had the vibe of magic. 🔍
Triston Casas shouldn't be non-tendered by the November 20 deadline, the argument goes. His injuries were freak accidents, he missed all of 2026, and Boston hit just 163 homers. Keeping him, with three options left, is cheap power insurance. 💣
Speculation only: a writer suggests Boston could revisit Elly De La Cruz trade efforts this winter, possibly with top prospect Franklin Arias as the centerpiece. Reportedly, the Reds wanted young big leaguers last time, not prospects. 🤔
Don't expect a Red Sox spending spree before the lockout. Per Alex Speier, Boston avoided major payroll commitments in past CBA years, with 2022 the exception, and this CBA's uncertainty only adds caution. Trades, like the Chris Sale deal, have been their route. 🔒
Red Sox are reportedly "widely expected" to try to trade Jarren Duran this offseason, though nothing is confirmed. Meanwhile, Ceddanne Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu each won a Fielding Bible Award, so the outfield defense looks sorted. 🧤
Red Sox reportedly plan to save most of their budget for the offense, so rotation help could come from the low-cost tier. Clay Holmes is floated as the top target, a ground-ball specialist who could be a Sonny Gray stand-in at Fenway. 🎯
Red Sox front office shakeup: Assistant GM Taylor Smith leaves to become the A's President of Baseball Operations, and coaches Chad Epperson (third base) and Pablo Cabrera (first base) were reassigned. Analytics loses a key architect. 🔄
Jon Heyman sees only a "slim chance" the Rockies move Hunter Goodman before 2027, and Boston likely won't push after paying a steep deadline price for Adley Rutschman. Goodman hit 41 homers, but Colorado reportedly wanted a No. 1 prospect. 🔒
Brayan Bello looks like Boston's internal answer if Sonny Gray (18-5, 2.72 ERA) doesn't return in 2027. After a 7.18 ERA through 11 starts and a demotion, he posted a 1.98 ERA as a reliever and an 11-strikeout gem vs. Tampa Bay. Redemption arc. ⚾
