Randy Arozarena is being pitched as a Red Sox free-agent target, with a predicted five-year, $140M deal. Boston needs a right-handed thumper beside Willson Contreras, and he went 6-for-15 with two homers at Fenway in September. Cost is the catch. 💰
Boston's offense ranked 26th in homers (163) and 23rd in runs (689), so a big slugger tops the wish list. Wilyer Abreu and Ceddanne Rafaela could be the best trade chips, but only for a near-guaranteed 35-40 homer bat. Prospect pitching is thinner now. ⚾
Oddsmakers have the Red Sox at the 4th-best 2027 title odds, and an Over the Monster column argues the market is right: they're simply a good team. A 90-win floor looks likelier than 80, with Craig Breslow and the farm system ready to make moves. 🔥
Shelley Duncan is leaving the Yankees' Triple-A staff to join the Red Sox's major league staff. He managed the RailRiders for four seasons and won International League Manager of the Year in 2025. His exact role is TBD, with first or third base coach likely. 🧢
Steven Brooks led the Red Sox system with eight saves in 11 chances. The 24-year-old righty posted a 4.06 ERA and 93 strikeouts in 64 1/3 innings across High-A Greenville and Double-A Portland, with 13.01 K/9. 🔒
Red Sox manager Chad Tracy is reportedly adding Yankees Triple-A manager Shelley Duncan to the big league staff, per MassLive. His role is unclear. Duncan, the 2025 International League Manager of the Year, has led Scranton/Wilkes-Barre since 2023. 🔄
Red Sox need trades to clear a 48-man 40-man roster and ease a payroll near the second tax threshold, but MLBTR's top 40 trade candidates list has only Jarren Duran (No. 12). Thin prospect depth could make deals tougher. 📉
Red Sox could chase power this offseason with Teruaki Sato, the NPB Triple Crown winner now in the posting system. He hit .306/.383/.609 with 39 homers and 106 RBI, and Boston ranked 26th in MLB in homers (163) this year. 🔨
Reliever John Brebbia elected free agency, leaving the Red Sox organization. The right-hander signed a minor league deal on August 7 and never pitched for Boston at the MLB level. A quiet exit from a bullpen footnote. 📝
Antonio Anderson earned Arizona Fall League Fall Stars honors, hitting .361/.500/.623 with three homers. After a .098 April, he finished at .273/.373/.453 for Greenville. The 2023 third-rounder is a Red Sox prospect to watch in the rankings. 📈
It’s a single-issue negotiation. MLB wants a cap, the players reject a cap. All of the details MLB has shared about its vision -- a number of which are good! -- are tied to the MLBPA accepting a cap system. Publicly, at least, the league has not put forth any vision of a non-capped league. The players, and again I’ll say this is based on what we know, appear to have no intention of accepting a payroll cap. Until one side or the other concedes on this point, there is nowhere for negotiations...
A proposed trade from the "Play Tessie" podcast would have the Red Sox land Oneil Cruz and Mitch Keller from Pittsburgh for Jarren Duran, Jake Bennett, Mickey Gasper and Masataka Yoshida's $18M deal. Just a pitch, and the hosts split on whether anyone says yes. 🤔
Former Red Sox first-rounder Michael Chavis is now a free agent, per Baseball America. He spent 2026 at Triple-A Louisville in the Reds' system, hitting 25 homers with a .248 average, but never got the call. In 168 games with Boston from 2019 to 2021, he hit 25 homers. 📋
Red Sox infield prospect Antonio Anderson is a 2026 AFL Fall Star, repping Mesa on the AL roster Sunday. He's hitting .361/.500/.623 with a 1.123 OPS, third among qualified hitters, and is also in Saturday's Home Run Derby. 🔥
One analyst predicts the Red Sox could land Taylor Ward in free agency, betting Fenway Park revives a bat that fell from 36 homers in 2025 to .225 with seven in 2026. A prediction, not a deal, but the bounce-back pitch is clear. 🔄
Brayan Bello could reportedly be a trade candidate this offseason. MassLive's Sean McAdam says Boston wouldn't "hang up the phone" if a team called, though he doesn't think they're actively shopping him. Bello posted a 2.12 ERA over his last 13 appearances after a 6.06 first half.
Red Sox offseason runs on a clock: MLB owners plan a lockout after Dec. 1, so business could freeze fast. GM meetings in Vegas (Nov. 9-12), qualifying offer decisions Nov. 12, and 40-man protection Nov. 17 set the pace. ⏳
Caleb Durbin's 2026 was a rollercoaster: .172 in March/April, .326 with 6 HR in June, then a steady on-base finish. Signed through 2031 with back-to-back 101 OPS+ seasons, he looks like Boston's safest third base option, with a healthy year the hope. 🎢
Bleacher Report's Tim Kelly predicts the Red Sox could sign Brandon Lowe to a three-year, $75.3M deal with a $25M 2030 club option. Lowe would take over at second base, pushing Curtis Mead and Caleb Durbin to compete at third. Prediction only. 🔍
Sandy Leon, a member of Boston's 2018 World Series champions, hit free agency this week and can sign with any MLB team. The Red Sox made the 2026 playoffs under new manager Chad Tracy, but this is a catching cameo from the past, not a roster move. ⚾
