Red Sox traded lefty Eduardo Rivera, 23, to the Cardinals for 18-year-old minor league righty Juan García, per SoxProspects.com's Andrew Parker. Rivera debuted in 2026 and posted a 6.30 ERA over four MLB appearances. Another Breslow roster shuffle. 🔄
Chad Tracy is a finalist for AL Manager of the Year, and Payton Tolle (3.03 ERA, 171 K in 148.2 IP) is up for AL Rookie of the Year. Boston also re-signed minor league pitcher Yordanny Monegro after he briefly hit free agency. 🏆
MLB Trade Rumors (Red Sox): Red Sox To Trade Eduardo Rivera To Cardinals
Red Sox reportedly plan to call the Nationals about CJ Abrams and the Reds about Elly De La Cruz, per Jim Bowden. Boston ranked 23rd in runs scored in 2026 and wants at least a bat or two. Neither star is confirmed to be available. 🎯
Red Sox reportedly re-signed RHP Yordanny Monegro, 24, to a minor-league deal for 2027. He returned from Tommy John surgery in late August, made three starts between Greenville and Portland, and is now pitching for Licey in the Dominican Winter League. 🩹
Ian Browne of MLB.com pegs free-agent lefty Shota Imanaga (3.77 ERA) as an offseason fit for Boston, citing Craig Breslow's past scouting of him. Another southpaw for a lefty-heavy staff? Breslow's type. 🔒 Just speculation for now.
Red Sox designated lefty Eduardo Rivera for assignment, a surprise that frees a spot on a full 40-man roster. The 6-foot-7 strikeout arm had a 6.30 ERA over four MLB games this year, then finished on the IL with a lumbar strain. 🔒
Red Sox free-agent fits are on the board: Randy Arozarena and Seiya Suzuki headline five names who could help Craig Breslow's club move past the Wild Card round. Arozarena, who hit well at Fenway, would add a right-handed bat, but a qualifying offer means a pick cost. 🎯
A ClutchPoints idea has the Red Sox pursuing Brewers closer Trevor Megill (2.63 ERA, 30 saves in 2026) with a proposed Jarren Duran and Yoeilin Cespedes package. Nothing is agreed, and the cost for a reliever one year from free agency is steep. 🔒
Brayan Bello's 2026 turned after a June 4 blowup vs. Baltimore (8 ER) sent him to Worcester. He returned sharper, with better velocity and walk/strikeout rates, and finished with a 4.33 ERA. Sometimes a reset beats a rotation spot. ⚾
Padres declined Nick Pivetta's $14M club option, making him a free agent and a possible Red Sox reunion. Boston's rotation leans lefty and Sonny Gray's option was declined, so a righty could be useful, especially if Pivetta bounces back from his elbow injury. 🔁
Bleacher Report's Zachary Rymer reportedly tags Jarren Duran as Boston's top trade asset this offseason. With an outfield logjam and a 0.4-rWAR year, Duran could be moved, though his power, speed and two years of control still carry value. 🔄
Gold Gloves headline the Red Sox' offseason so far: Ceddanne Rafaela (2nd straight) and Wilyer Abreu (3rd straight) won again, and Caleb Durbin was also honored. Boston.com sees a team that's not far off, even if the roster isn't there yet. 🧤
On this date in 1959, Boston sent southpaw swingman Frank Baumann to the White Sox for first baseman Ron Jackson. Baumann then led the AL with a 2.67 ERA in 1960, a pickpocketing the Red Sox would probably like back. 🔒
Red Sox offseason questions: replacing likely free-agent departure Sonny Gray (18 wins, 2.72 ERA), whether Caleb Durbin can repeat his strong year, and more. A 15-game surge to 87-75 and a playoff berth gives Boston momentum, even after the Yankees' Wild Card rout.
The Red Sox designated 23-year-old LHP Eduardo Rivera for assignment as free agency opened. He debuted in 2026, posting seven earned runs over 10 innings, and finished on the IL with a lumbar strain. Outright assignment to Worcester looks likely. ⚾
Chad Tracy (AL Manager of the Year) and Payton Tolle (AL Rookie of the Year) are both award finalists. Tracy led Boston to 77-58 after taking over from Alex Cora at 10-17. Winners: Tolle Nov. 9, Tracy Nov. 10. 🏆
Steve Adams of MLBTradeRumors predicts the Red Sox could land free agent Seiya Suzuki on a five-year, $105M deal. It's only a prediction, but the slugger (.270, 26 HR, 86 RBI) would address Boston's offensive needs, especially with Jarren Duran rumors swirling. 🔥
Red Sox designated relievers Zack Kelly and Eduardo Rivera for assignment at the 60-day IL deadline, after failing to trade them first. Kelly missed the rest of 2026 with elbow inflammation; MassLive's Chris Cotillo reports "league interest" in Rivera. 🔧
